‘Really?!’ B.C. man ‘flags’ problem of dog-owners discarding poop

WHITE ROCK (NEWS 1130) — A local man is taking action against dog owners in Metro Vancouver who refuse to properly clean up after their four-legged friends — and he’s encouraging others to join him.

AP Hovasse spends lots of time on trails around the Lower Mainland, and he was tired of seeing dog-owners discarding bags of poop.

Whenever he’d come across one of these unpleasant surprises he’d have the same thought: “Really? WTF Dog Walkers?!”

So he decided to make tiny flags expressing exactly that sentiment.

“It’s very weird when you think about someone actually bent down to pick up the dog’s poop in a plastic bag — I think that’s a fairly courageous act. Then they turn around and dump it on the ground?” he says.

“I love dogs I really do. I have nothing against the dogs, it’s not the dog’s fault at all.”

Now, when he encounters discarded droppings, he plants a flag, hoping this will make people stop and reconsider their behaviour.

“There’s nobody who enforces these rules, so these people are just doing this. There’s nobody to stop them,” he explains.

Hovasse says he’s been sending out PDFs of the flags so people can make their own. He’s even created an Instagram account where people can submit their photos.

Since he’s taken to social media, he says he’s been contacted by a lot of other people who feel the same way he does

“People are really disgusted by it. You really do see them everywhere, not just in parks. I have people in the city who told me that people throw them in their bushes all the time, they throw them in the trees. It’s really awful.”
