Trina Hunt’s remains found in Hope, death considered homicide

PORT MOODY (NEWS 1130) — Nearly three and half months after Trina Hunt was reported missing, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has confirmed human remains found in Hope on March 29 have been identified as the 48-year-old.

Hunt was last seen at her home around 6 a.m. on Jan. 18. Her husband reported her missing later that day when he returned home from work.

Since her disappearance, police, search and rescue crews, and hundreds of volunteers have scoured the area around her Heritage Woods home in the hopes of finding her.

Previously, Port Moody Police said they did not believe foul play was involved in her disappearance. Now, a statement from IHIT says foul play is suspected in her death, and the team has reclassified the case as a homicide.

“The missing person investigation of Trina Hunt has now transitioned into a case of homicide,” Sergeant Frank Jang of IHIT says. “As this is an active and ongoing investigation, there will be no further details provided at this time.”

Hunt’s family posted to a Facebook group dedicated to locating her, confirming “with shattered hearts” Hunt was found in Hope.

“We are forever grateful for your love through all of this. This community of friends, family and strangers (who now feel like friends) has been there to support us in finding Trina each step of the way. Your words, thoughts, kindness and outpouring of love are truly what has kept us going these past 3.5 months. We need your love and support more than ever right now. Thank you,” the statement reads.

“Trina, we love you, and we will never let your sparkle fade from this world.”
