DELTA (CityNews) — Another immersive experience is coming to Metro Vancouver!
“The Da Vinci Experience,” a “video-mapping narrative, focused on the life and the works of Leonardo” launches in June at Tsawwassen Mills, in Delta. This is the first time the international spectacle will be available in Canada or the US.
According to the event’s website, this “multi-sensory 360º immersive journey” is about one hour long, and features Da Vinci’s masterpiece paintings projected onto massive walls, as “visual experiences in virtual reality.”
Da Vinci was also a brilliant inventor, putting out the first prototype for numerous things we use today, including the parachute, diving gear, and even scissors. The exhibition will feature ten full-size scale model replicas of his incredible machine inventions. It’s unclear which ones exactly, but some of his fascinating and experimental designs were flying machines, war weapons, construction equipment, and functional bridges, to name a few.

Curated by the director of the Leonardian Museum in Vinci, Dr. Roberta Barsanti, and put on by Sensea Immersive and Crossmedia Canada, Ltd, a Vancouver BC company.
“We sought to realize all our ambitions in what soon proved to be a great challenge: creating an experience that could describe Leonardo’s genius, dealing with his multifaceted works using the appropriate language. A sort of storytelling in images – spectacular, engaging, complete – of the heart of da Vinci’s world.” the event website reads.
For those in Delta who had been hesitant to travel all the way downtown to see “Imagine Van Gogh” at Canada Place amid pandemic restrictions, this is a fabulous alternative to experience an immersive experience just as mind-blowing and incredible, while staying a little bit closer to home.
As well, since we are in the midst of a pandemic, safety measures including social distancing, mask-wearing are encouraged and facilitated through limited capacity inside the event. Those who do book tickets to “The Da Vinci Experience” in advance, and are unexpectedly sidelined by Covid, or are forced to self-isolate, the event is also offering a guarantee: “If your time to attend the Da Vinci Experience is cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions, we will reschedule you at the earliest date and time available at no cost to you.”
