VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – If you’re going to work out at the gym in B.C., make sure you’re wearing your mask at all times or face the possibility of a fine.
New changes at the provincial level mean police and other types of officers will now be able to enforce the COVID-19 mask mandate in gyms and other fitness facilities. Mask-wearing is required at all times in these spaces, including while you’re working out.
To be in line with the rules, you’ll have to don a medical or non-medical mask that covers the nose and mouth. Face shields don’t count.

The provincial mask mandate applies to everyone over the age of 12, unless they are exempt.
“All other measures for indoor mask use continue to apply. People who cannot wear a mask, or who cannot put on or remove a mask without the assistance of others, are exempt. A person may not be able to wear a mask for a psychological, behavioural or health condition, or due to a physical, cognitive or mental impairment,” reads a statement from the province.
If you refuse to comply with the order, you could be given a $230 ticket.
