Question:
Lira is wondering if Canada’s hotel quarantine is mandatory, even if you live by yourself.
Answer:
The rule has been if you’re traveling into Canada, you need to comply with all of the requirements laid out by the federal government when it comes to quarantining.
If you are flying into Canada, you will still need to quarantine for a full 14 days.
That’s even if you’ve been vaccinated, tested negative for the virus when you arrive at the airport, or have previously recovered from COVID-19.
If you’re flying into Canada, your quarantine period includes a mandatory prepaid booking at a government authorized hotel for up to three days, all on your own dime, even if you live alone.

After that, you can quarantine at home as long as you have the necessities to live there for the full 14-day period.
That includes access to water, food, and medications.
Those who choose to quarantine at home are also not allowed to step outside of their home or have any visitors until that period is over, and they’ve tested negative for the virus.
As for getting from your hotel to your home, you’re encouraged to keep your face mask on at all times, and to travel there in a private vehicle.
