VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – People are being invited for a peaceful gathering in Vancouver to honour the 215 children whose remains were discovered at a former residential school in Kamloops last month.
The “Remember the Children” event is meant to support the Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc in the wake of the discovery.
Event organizers say drummers and singers will gather at Grandview Park Wednesday evening to support the Tk’emlúps call for prayers in honour of those who died at the residential school.
Memorials and shows of support for the First Nation have been taking place and growing across the country in recent days, after it was confirmed by the Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc that the remains of the children had been found.
Many have placed children’s shoes in front of and on the steps of various buildings across Canada in memory of the children who were taken from their families to be brought to residential schools.
