Vancouver Heritage House Tour takes on virtual format for 2021

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The Vancouver Heritage House Tour is back, but in a different form in 2021.

Vancouver Heritage Foundation Executive Director Judith Mosley says organizers are taking the event online due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“So we’re going to be presenting tours through six different homes using prerecorded video tours, but then also offer the opportunity to put questions to the presenters after the tours as well,” she explained.

Usually, it’s held on the first Sunday in June with up to a 1,000 paying customers each year.

The six houses featured range from an 1890s home in Strathcona to an award-winning, mid-century modern residence from 1958.

“The houses on the tour are across five different neighbourhoods from Strathcona to Southlands, taking in Shaughnessy and Kerrisdale along the way. So a bit of variety in terms of the neighbourhoods and definitely in terms of the history and age and style of the homes that we’ll see,” Mosley added.

She believes despite the event taking on a virtual format, it still offers people an opportunity to get inside these different homes.

“We can still get inside the spaces, enjoy some local history, learn about architecture and design, and really enjoy some very unique homes and spaces together,” she said.

This is the first year the Vancouver Heritage House Tour is going virtual. Mosley says the foundation is looking forward to seeing how the event is received.

The event did not take place in 2020, though the foundation did provide people with references to take themselves on a free, self-guided tour.

The tours run on Thursday, June 3, and Tuesday, June 8, starting at 7:00 p.m. each day.
