Vehicle hanging from helicopter over Vancouver part of commercial shoot

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – People were not imagining things when they saw a vehicle suspended from a helicopter over Vancouver’s English Bay Tuesday morning.

NEWS 1130 has confirmed with Talon Helicopters the stunt was part of a commercial shoot.

The vehicle was seen dangling at the end of a long line from one aircraft, as another followed.

People calling the newsroom reported hearing loud chopper sounds before 6 a.m. Tuesday. One person said the vehicle appeared to be “very close” to the buildings in Vancouver’s West End.

Another caller says he was woken up.

“They’re going back and forth,” described Steve Phillips, who lives in the Kitsilano area and described what he was seeing as it was happening.

“And one of them is carrying a cable down below, about 50 feet, with what looks like a station wagon or a car of some sort. And then there’s another yellow helicopter following the black helicopter. Sometimes he’s above him, sometimes he’s behind him, sometimes he’s in front of him,” Phillips said, adding it was an odd thing to be woken up by.

“It’s kind of weird. And they’re very, very loud.”

Talon says its helicopter, which is bright yellow, was equipped with a camera to shoot the video. It’s unclear what exactly that footage will be used for.
