Fraser Health setting up beachside COVID-19 vaccine clinics

SURREY (NEWS 1130) — Unvaccinated people in the Fraser Health region will be able to get their first dose of the COVID-19 shot at two clinics being set up at popular beaches next week.

The health authority will be setting up drop-in clinics at Crescent Beach and Cultus Lake in an attempt to get more people in the region immunized.

Spokesperson Sarah Siebert says they are getting creative with outreach, trying to connect with younger people who haven’t booked an appointment or received the jab.

“We’re really excited to be able to offer this kind of fun opportunity for people, really focusing on young adults, families who really maybe just haven’t had the time or the opportunity to come and get their vaccine,” she explains.

“We’ve heard from a lot of young people that just haven’t had the time they’ve been busy. We see, you know, good uptake in the in the older age groups, but not so much in some of the younger age groups so we wanted to go where we know young people like to go in the summer.”

The clinic at Crescent Beach in Surrey will run on Tues., July 6, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The address is 12160 Beecher Street

On Fri, July 9, a team will set up at the man beach at Cultus Lake between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

All other clinics in the region are also accepting drop-ins for first doses. A list of locations can be found online.

With 77.5 per cent of British Columbians 12 and older having received their first dose, Siebert says meeting people where they are at will allow the province to get more shots in arms sooner.

It just hasn’t been convenient for them so it’s on their list of things to do. So, we thought if we bring it to them. It might just be easier. We’ve also heard people unsure about how to register or where do you go online, and so we thought if we’re just there we can, we can just give them their shot.
