Car engine in Port Moody burst into flames following crash

PORT MOODY (NEWS 1130) — One person narrowly escaped from a burning car after it collided with another vehicle Friday night.

Near the Sea-view Elementary School on Glenayre Drive, the Port Moody police department says a blue Saturn and black Ford both lost control. The Saturn ended up hitting a parked car, and subsequently, a residential home.

Once police arrived on the scene, they found that the Saturn’s engine was on fire and the driver was trapped inside.

“A PMPD member extinguished the fire,” a release reads, adding that after, “The driver of the Saturn was safely removed from the vehicle and transported to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.”

A good samaritan also assisted with his personal fire extinguisher.

The driver of the Ford was uninjured.

The collision is under investigation, but police believe speed and “driving behaviour” were factors here.

If you have any information about the case or dash camera footage, police are asking you to contact the PMPD quoting file number 2021-3771.
