B.C. daily COVID-19 cases rises to 89, no deaths recorded Thursday

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – B.C. recorded 89 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, more than double the number of infections just three days before. However, there have been no deaths linked to the virus since the weekend.

Since Monday, when the province recorded just 40 new cases, the number has risen each consecutive day with 76 on Tuesday and 78 on Wednesday. Thursday’s 89 marks the highest since last month.

There are 781 active cases province-wide. Of those, 53 people are in the hospital, up from 48 on Wednesday. There are 15 COVID patients in the ICU, down from 16 the day before.

In the past day, there were 37 new cases in the Interior health region, 30 in Fraser Health, and 18 in Vancouver Coastal Health. Island Health saw three new cases and Northern Health recorded just one.

There were two COVID-related deaths over the weekend, the only ones in the past week, for a total of 1,763 since the pandemic began.

There are still active outbreaks at Laurel Place at Surrey Memorial Hospital and Holyrood Manor.

B.C.’s COVID-19 vaccination program continues to move along, with the vast majority of doses administered now being second doses.

The province says 56.9 per cent of eligible British Columbians are now fully vaccinated, while 80.2 per cent have at least one dose.
