VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — The Vancouver soccer community is among those celebrating Canada’s historic trip to the gold medal match later this week, as a hometown woman was on the pitch to help celebrate their victory over Team USA.
Those who watched the match may have seen Vancouver-born Julia Grosso helping lead Canada to victory.
While just 20-years old, TSS Rovers Director Colin Elmes has known and watched Grosso develop as a soccer player for years.
“Julie was with us from, I think, when she was nine till about 13 in our academy and then returned to play for us in what’s called the Women’s Premier Soccer League.”
Elmes says we should expect to see a lot more of Grosso in the future, as she maintains a lot of special skills.

“Less than 15 per cent of the female player population is left-footed, so she’s, she’s a bit of a commodity there.”
And as Canada prepares to go for gold Thursday night, Elmes says it’s a sign that our national soccer program has been headed in the right direction.
Elmes adds that young women like Grosso and the rest of the squad can inspire younger players to stick with the game.
