Heat forecast for Metro Vancouver prompts weather alert

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — People living in Metro Vancouver are being warned to brace for rising temperatures, with a special weather statement issued Monday for the region.

NEWS 1130 meteorologist Michale Kuss forecasts an increase in daytime highs from the low to mid-30s by mid-week, with the hot weather lasting into the weekend.

“Hot air builds in under a strengthening ridge of high pressure by the end of the week, but it only looks like a three-day run,” he explains.

The peak of the wave is expected Thursday, and nighttime lows aren’t expected to dip below 17 C.

Environment Canada is reminding people to monitor for signs of heat-related illness such as dizziness, nausea, headache, shortness of breath, swelling of hands and feet, and extreme thirst.
