B.C. records 395 COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations rise

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – B.C. has recorded another 395 COVID-19 cases, as the daily figures continue on an upward trend.
Interior Health, has recorded less than half (187) of cases for the first time in a couple weeks. That region has been the big concern due to a spike in cases in the Central Okanagan, in particular.
Fraser Health recorded the next-highest number of COVID-19 cases with 100, while there were 61 in Vancouver Coastal Health. Another 31 cases were confirmed in Island Health and Northern Health recorded 15.
One additional case was identified in a person who lives outside of Canada.

The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 continues to rise, with 71 patients as of Tuesday. That’s a 37 per cent increase over 52 hospitalizations recorded on Friday.
There are 23 patients in the ICU, down from 24 on Monday and up from 20 on Friday. No one in B.C. has died of the illness in the past day.

On the vaccine front, the number of people receiving their first dose is slowly increasing, standing at 82.1 per cent of eligible British Columbians on Tuesday. The province says 70.6 per cent of people aged 12 and up are fully vaccinated.
There are seven active outbreaks: Holyrood Manor; Kin Village West Court (Fraser Health); Nelson Jubilee Manor; Kootenay Street Village; Cottonwoods Care Centre; Brookhaven Care Centre (Interior Health); and Discovery Harbour (Island Health).
On Monday, B.C. announced it is reducing the time between COVID-19 vaccine doses to 28 days.
The wait between doses had already cut down to 28 days in the Central Okanagan, which has been leading the surge in cases in B.C. Elsewhere, the previous interval was 49 days.

Since December 2020, the province has administered 7,087,736 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines.
