VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – After being closed for more than a year, the Vancouver Aquarium is fully reopening its doors to the public as of Monday.
The aquarium was forced to shut down in September 2020 due to revenue losses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the time, Ocean Wise had said it was “temporarily pausing public programming” to “focus on transforming to a new model” that addressed the financial impact of the health crisis. Ocean Wise added it was also taking the time to focus on accelerating ocean conservation.

However, the aquarium announced in April of this year that it had been saved, saying a U.S. company was taking over ownership of the popular attraction from the Ocean Wise Conservation Association.
While the Vancouver Aquarium will begin welcoming visitors as of Monday, many COVID-19-related measures will remain in place.

They include managing capacity through an online guest reservation system. The new tool will allow people to schedule their visits to the aquarium to avoid overcrowding.
People can buy tickets and make their reservations on the aquarium’s website.
Masks also continue to be recommended for everyone over the age of 12 who are not fully vaccinated.
