Missing hiker found dead in Manning Park

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — A 52-year-old man who disappeared in Manning Park has been found dead.

Andriy Fendrikov was reported missing to the Vancouver Police Monday when he didn’t show up for work. Police confirmed Wednesday afternoon his body was found near Snass Mountain.

Earlier in the day, police said they were ramping up efforts in the search with the help of RCMP and search and rescue crews.

“This is a tragic ending, and certainly not the outcome we had hoped for,” says Sergeant Steve Addison. “Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Andriy Fendrikov, and we’re thankful to everyone who assisted in the search.”

The VPD first believed Fendrikov was in Elaho Valley near Squamish. Investigators confirmed he spoke with another hiker Monday afternoon near Snass Mountain, but no other contact had been reported.

Police say Fendrikov was prepared for the hike and is an “avid hiker with significant backcountry experience.”
