B.C. COVID-19 cases still riding high amid 749 infections, 9 deaths Thursday

VICTORIA (NEWS 1130) — B.C.’s latest COVID numbers are down from Wednesday but still riding quite high.

The province is reporting 749 new cases, along with nine additional deaths over the past 24-hours.

There are currently 145 people in intensive care. But the province says that because Thursday is a federal holiday, it cannot provide hospitalization numbers or active or recovered case counts.

According to the province, between Sept. 22 and 28, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 71.2 per cent of cases. From Sept. 15 to 28, they accounted for 80.6 per cent of hospitalizations.

Fraser Health is recording the highest number of COVID-19 cases – accounting for 267 infections and two deaths. There were 113 cases and one death confirmed in Vancouver Coastal Health, 157 new cases and two deaths in Interior Health, and Island Health recorded another 64 new cases and two deaths. Sparsely populated Northern Health has seen 148 new infections and one death.

Of the eligible adults in B.C., 88.5 per cent have received their first dose and 81.8 per cent have received their second.

Long-term care: Westminster House, Menno Terrace East, The Residence in Mission, Magnolia Gardens (Fraser Health), Arbutus Care Centre, Louis Brier Home and Hospital (Vancouver Coastal Health), Cottonwoods Care Centre, Kamloops Seniors Village, The Hamlets at Westsyde, Joseph Creek Care Village, Overlander (Interior Health), Jubilee Lodge (Northern Health), and Victoria Chinatown Care Centre (Island Health).

Assisted or independent living: Sunset Manor, Hallmark on the Lake (Fraser Health), Hardy View Lodge (Interior Health), Cooper Place (Vancouver Coastal Health).

School or daycare: Maple Ridge Christian School (Fraser Health).
