Vancouver Opera sells used gear ahead of Halloween

Looking for costume pieces leading up to Halloween? The Vancouver Opera’s very first costume and prop sale is happening Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and it might have exactly what you need.

Technical Director Autumn Coppaway says they’ll have everything from bags of fabric and trim to props like cannons and dolls. Average prices range from $2 to $50, she estimates.

The pieces they’re offering are irreplaceable, says Coppaway, even though they’re not the costumes worn on stage anymore.

“There is actually a fair number of our costume stock that have certain significance and historical representation,” she says. “They’re not the ones that are on stage anymore, but they are still an almost priceless piece that is handmade and has been on stage.”

The Vancouver Opera is getting its Climate Smart certification program, which includes reducing, reusing, and recycling.

“Upcycling is definitely a huge portion of what we want to do moving forward,” she says.

The sale will be happening at the Vancouver Opera Rehearsal Hall on McLean Drive. They only accept payment by debit or credit, and you need to show your vaccine passport to get in.
