New Westminster homicide investigation at coffee shop

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been called in after a man entered a Waves Coffee House in New Westminster, and died shortly after.
Investigators say he was suffering from life-threatening injuries when he entered the business just after 6:30 a.m. Friday morning at the corner of Columbia and Begbie streets.
He was rushed to hospital, but did not survive. Police did not say how he was killed, or any possible motive.
“We understand there were witnesses to this incident and may be distressed by what they saw,” stated Sgt. Sanjay Kumar. “We encourage anyone who may have been affected by this morning’s incident to reach out to our Victim Assistance Unit.”

“Police are in the early stages of this investigation and are currently in the evidence gathering phase. At this time, investigators do not believe this homicide is linked to the ongoing Lower Mainland District Gang Conflict,” IHIT said in a release.
Police have shut down traffic in the area as they investigate. Drivers should expect delays.
