A portion of Highway 1 has now reopened for the first time since devastating flooding and mudslides shut down the major route several days ago.
The highway is now opened to single lane traffic in each direction between Hope and Highway 9, just east of Chilliwack.
Fantastic progress last night by @TranBC crews along #BCHwy1 between Popkum and Hope, which is now open *to essential travel only*.

Drivers should expect delays and prepare for construction and reduced speed limits.
“The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s highway maintenance contractor will continue to remove debris and repair road surfaces to restore the highway to normal condition,” the province said late Saturday.
#BCHwy1 is open to ESSENTIAL TRAVEL ONLY from #Popkum to #HopeBC from previous mudslide. Single lane traffic in both directions. Please use caution. The road remains CLOSED from #Abbotsford to #Chilliwack. https://t.co/XYJsGgiqo0

The province says while this section through Bridal Falls and Popkum does not fall under the Travel Restriction Order, drivers are asked to limit their travel to essential purposes only.
