Second murder charge laid in New Westminster homicide

Two people are now charged with murder after a man was killed in New Westminster Friday.

On Saturday, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) confirmed two men were arrested in connection with the death of 51-year-old Robert Powshuk.

A second-degree murder charge had already been laid against Ryan Crossley.

On Monday, IHIT announced the other person who was taken into custody, Curtis Crossley, has also been charged with second-degree murder.

Police have not confirmed how the two suspects may be related, nor how they knew the victim.

“We wish to assure the community that this was an isolated incident,” said Sgt. David Lee of IHIT.

IHIT was called to the area of Columbia and Begbie streets Friday morning after Powshuk, who was bleeding heavily, entered a Waves Coffee House, and died shortly after.

Investigators say Powshuk, had life-threatening injuries when he entered the coffee shop just after 6:30 a.m. While he was taken to the hospital, he did not survive his injuries.

No information has been provided as to how the 51-year-old was hurt, or any possible motive.
