An RCMP officer in Surrey has been charged in connection with an arrest nearly a year ago.
Charges of assault and uttering threats have been approved against Const. Zubair Mohammed Hassan.
The BC Prosecution Service says the charges are in connection with Hassan’s involvement in the arrest of a suspect on Dec. 9, 2020, but no further details have been provided.
“The charges were approved by an experienced Crown Counsel with no prior or current connection with the officer,” the Service noted in its statement.
Hassan was formally charged on Wednesday and his next appearance is scheduled for Dec. 13.
A spokesperson for the B.C. RCMP says Hassan is “currently assigned to administrative duties and his duty status is subject to continuous review and assessment.”
A code of conduct investigation is also underway, but details can’t be provided due to privacy.
