Man dies after portable washroom fire in Abbotsford

Abbotsford police are trying to figure out how a deadly fire broke out in a portable washroom.

Officers were called to South Fraser Way near Bourquin Crescent shortly before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday for reports of the washroom fully engulfed in flames.

A man was found nearby, suffering from severe burns. The 28-year-old later died in the hospital.

Abbotsford Police’s Major Crime Unit is now looking into whether this was an accident or if something suspicious happened.

The man is described as having been wearing a lime green winter jacket with grey sleeves, a red hoodie underneath the winter jacket, dark pants, and white running shoes. If you saw him in the area that night, you’re asked to call police.

Investigators are also asking for dashcam or CCTV footage in the area of Khalsa Diwan Temple on South Fraser Way between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. If you are able to help, you can contact the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225.
