As B.C. trudges on through worsening climate events, Vancouverites, commuters and visitors in Vancouver now have access to an app that will alert them of significant local emergencies.
The City of Vancouver will be using this municipal-level public alerting system to timely notify people of urgent and severe emergency events affecting the city.
The free app ‘Alertable‘ is now downloadable on smartphones, tablets, computers, and smart speakers.
.@CityofVancouver says it's going to be using Alertable, a downloadable smart phone app, which the city says allow for "timely distribution of info for urgent and severe emergency events" that affect #VancouverBC.

The City will continue to notify people through social media, local news media, updates to the City’s website and door knocking.
“Staying informed is an essential component of personal emergency preparedness,” Director of Emergency Management, Daniel Stevens, said. “Alertable is one of the fastest ways we can reach people. Now, more than ever, we need to be able to deliver important safety information to people in various ways.”

People may also expect alerts through the app for significant emergencies like major fires and disruptive hazardous materials, where the public needs to take urgent action.
“Alertable is for anyone, at any stage of emergency preparedness. We encourage people to download the app so they receive alerts with clear and direct instructions on how to stay safe,” Stevens added.
