Vehicles smashed by rocks thrown from South Surrey overpass

Several vehicles, including a TransLink bus, have been damaged in a situation that could have had a much more severe outcome in South Surrey.

Mounties say multiple calls came in between Nov. 26 and 30 reporting rocks being thrown from a pedestrian overpass along Highway 99.

No one was hurt, but images show cracks to windshields and even the front window of a TransLink bus smashed in the middle.

“In one incident, a rock the size of baseball was located,” the RCMP writes.

The first incident happened between the 32 Avenue and King George Boulevard exits on Nov. 26 just after 7:30 p.m. In this case, a semi-truck and a bus were damaged.

The next time thrown rocks were reported as causing damage was a few days later, on Nov. 29 just before 11 p.m.

Police say in that instance, two semis were damaged.

Another two semi trucks were hit by rocks on Nov. 30 just before 10:30 p.m.

Mounties say that while no one was hurt, this kind of behaviour has the potential to cause serious harm or even death.

“These incidents are very concerning,” said Cpl. Vanessa Munn.

Anyone with information or who may have dashcam footage from the area is asked to contact the RCMP.

Investigators are also encouraging people to report anything suspicious to police.
