Deborah Marshall with BC Ferries says they made the decision to cancel early Friday afternoon, as the storm looks like it will be aggressive.
“We are proactively cancelling these sailings so that customers don’t turn up at the terminals. We want to have people avoid disappointment. We certainly don’t take the decision lightly to cancel sailings, but it is in the interest of safety.”
The weekend storm is expected to bring up to 50 millimetres of rain and winds gusting up to 80 kilometres per hour across Metro Vancouver.
Marshall notes there may be more cancellations this weekend.
“This storm is supposed to peak tonight, but it still will be quite windy tomorrow morning,” she said Friday.
Anyone planning to catch a ferry Saturday morning is asked to check the BC Ferries website for current conditions before leaving for the terminal.
People who booked a reservation for a sailing that is cancelled will be advised of the cancellation and automatically get a refund.
