A man has been taken to the hospital after he was shot in Surrey Thursday morning.
Mounties say it happened at a home on Laurel Drive — which is south of Fraser Highway and east of King George Boulevard — just after 8 a.m.
“Our officers did respond to a shooting and located one man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. That man was taken to the hospital by emergency health services and officers are now working in the Whalley area looking for a suspect,” explained Sgt. Elenore Sturko with the Surrey RCMP.
Mounties say early indications are that this was a targeted shooting and that the people involved know each other.
“We do not have an indication at this point that there would be any type of active threat in the community. So while the shooting itself would have placed members of the community at risk certainly while the shooting took place, we don’t have any information that there is an active threat at this time,” Sturko added.
There is no description available of the suspect or suspects at this time but the RCMP is asking anyone who may have information to contact investigators.
People are being told to avoid the area of Laurel Drive while the search continues.
If you have any information to share, you’re asked to call the Surrey RCMP at 604.599.0502.
