A man has been arrested and charged after police say he allegedly threatened a downtown grocery store worker with a meat cleaver in Vancouver.
The VPD says the 23-year-old was shopping at a store along Robson Street Monday when an employee noticed he wasn’t masked.
When the man was asked to cover his face, he is said to have pulled the knife, threatened the worker, and left without paying for his items.

The suspect was found shortly after trying to leave in a taxi, police say.
“The stolen goods were returned to the store and the suspect was taken to jail. Fortunately, nobody was physically hurt,” said Sgt. Steve Addison.
According to B.C.’s public health order, masks are still mandatory in all public indoor settings, including grocery stores, for people who are five years and older.
There are some exemptions, including for people cannot wear masks due to health conditions or physical, cognitive, or mental impairments.
The man has been charged with one count of robbery. He has been released from custody.
