The number of health-care facilities in B.C. with COVID-19 outbreaks continues to rise, as does the number of people hospitalized with the virus.

According to Monday’s update from provincial health officials, there are now 43 outbreaks at long-term care, acute care, and assisted living facilities. Seven new outbreaks have been declared since Friday, while two have been declared over. Four hospitals in the Fraser health region are experiencing outbreaks, Mission Memorial Hospital, Surrey Memorial Hospital, Eagle Ridge Hospital and Royal Columbian Hospital. A list of all outbreaks can be found online.

There are 431 people hospitalized due to the virus, a 44.6 per cent increase since Jan 4. There are 95 people in intensive care, a 10.5 per cent increase in that same period.

Seven people have died from the virus in the past 72 hours. Three people passed away in Fraser Health, three in Vancouver Coastal, and one in Northern Health.

While the number of new cases reported by the province continues to provide an incomplete picture of the number of infections, there have been 6,966 new cases of COVID-19 since Friday. 2,672 new cases in Fraser Health saw 2,672, there were 1,393 in Interior Health, 1,067 in Vancouver Coastal, and 584 in Northern Health.
