The flag at Vancouver City Hall is flying at half-mast Monday following the death of a decades-long employee in a workplace accident.
Gord Dolyniuk, a 64-year old truck driver in the engineering streets division, has been identified as the man who died last Friday at the city’s National Works Yard.
A statement from City Manager Paul Mochrie says first responders tried to save Dolyniuk’s life, but his injuries were “too severe.” WorkSafe BC is investigating, as is the city.
“This is a devastating loss for our organization,” the statement reads.
“The City extends our deepest condolences to Gord’s family, and to the many members of our staff who were Gord’s friends and worked with him over the years.”
Counselling services are available to city staff.
