Canada considering backing Ukraine if armed conflict arises

As Canada considers whether it will defend Ukraine during armed conflict, the prime minister isn’t saying if Canadian troops might engage in military action to defend the Ukrainian border against Russian aggressions.
The United States has said it is not planning any military action in its support of Ukraine, as 100,000 Russian troops line the border.
Ukrainians can always count on Canada to be there for them when needed.
Canada has offered to provide a loan to #Ukraine to support the country’s economic resilience and governance reforms.

But when asked twice if the Canadian military would engage if an armed conflict arises, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he’s not ruling it out.
“We are using all tools to try and encourage Russia to de-escalate, to solve this diplomatically,” he said.

Trudeau says the government is carefully looking at all the different options and scenarios. However, he doesn’t want a conflict to get to the point where intervention is necessary.
The prime minister announced a $120 million loan for Ukraine to help stabilize its economy, and the federal government is looking at supplying other supports as well.
Trudeau would not confirm reports from The Star that Canada will be sending weapons and providing intelligence and cyber security assistance to Ukraine, or that the country’s training mission with the Ukrainian military will be extended.
There are already 200 Canadian troops on the ground helping train the Ukrainian military.
