Her family made an emotional plea for information in December of 2018.

“Since her murder, we have been struggling with the reality that we can never see her sweet face again. Our broken hearts will never heal, and we have no answers as to why this has happened to her,” her sister Anjali Dhesi said. “My sister had the brightest smile and the purest heart of anyone I’ve ever met.”

In May of 2019, Deo was arrested at Vancouver International Airport and charged with second-degree murder. Police said he and Dhesi were “in a romantic relationship.”

Later that month, Deo’s mother was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact to murder. In total, four of Deo’s family members were charged in connection to Dhesi’s killing. His sister, brother, and a member of Deo’s extended family, were been charged with accessory after the fact to murder and indignity to human remains.
