Man charged in violent Vancouver carjacking

A man has been charged after an alleged violent Vancouver carjacking left a 58-year-old woman injured and lying in the middle of the road.
Police say the woman stopped at a red light at Cambie and Broadway Sunday morning when 48-year-old Chad Ayukawa allegedly got into her car from the passenger side, dragged her out, and drove off in her car.

According to a Facebook post by a witness, someone who tried to help the woman was also assaulted by the man before he took off.

Cambie and Broadway is one of Vancouver’s busiest intersections, and the carjacking happened in morning daylight.
Vancouver police located Ayukawa and the car in Strathcona around 10 a.m. the same day.
Ayukawa has been charged with robbery, assault, and driving offences.
