Elderly man drowns in Okanagan Lake near Peachland

An elderly man has died after his vehicle went into Okanagan Lake near Peachland Thursday night.

RCMP say at about 10:15 p.m., the man was driving along Highway 97 in the Antlers Beach area when the vehicle hit a concrete divider and went off the road, into the lake.

Two witnesses broke the driver-side window and tried to get the elderly man out of the car. However, they were not successful.

By the time officers arrived, the Subaru Forester was upside down and partially submerged. The senior was still in the vehicle and had already died.

The victim’s identity has not been released, as police notify his family.

The death is still under investigation by West Kelowna RCMP and the BC Coroners Service.
