Shots fired in targeted shooting, Surrey RCMP seek suspects

After shots were fired in Whalley Monday afternoon, police are looking for a stolen vehicle used in what they are calling a targeted shooting.

Around 1:00 p.m., RCMP say there were reports of shots fired near City Parkway in Surrey, although when police arrived nobody was injured nor struck by bullets.

According to police, the suspects may be travelling in a red Kia Optima that was reported stolen with the license plate number, KE0 43M.

“Police have significant overt and covert officers assigned to target those who bring violence to our streets, often as a result of street level drug trafficking disputes or interpersonal conflicts between gang members,” said Cpl. Vanessa Munn.

This is the fourth incident of shots fired in Surrey in the past six days, and Mounties say they are investigating any connections to the drug trade and Lower Mainland gang conflict.

“Gun violence has impacted every community in the Lower Mainland and criminals who are putting us all at risk due to their actions have no respect for us or city boundaries,” said Sgt. Lindsey Houghton.

With an uptick of gun violence in the region, police are asking the public to be extra vigilant in reporting suspicious activity to police. This includes any possible drug trafficking, as well as unknown vehicles idling for long periods in your neighborhood. Anyone with information about this latest shooting or any other recent targeted shooting is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
