Abbotsford Police investigating early-morning sexual assault

Abbotsford Police are urging the public to help find a suspect after a woman was sexually assaulted Sunday morning.

Police say a woman who was walking through the parking lot of a local business was approached by a man she didn’t know at around 4 a.m. in the area of South Fraser Way and Gladwin Road. During the encounter, police say she was sexually assaulted.

The victim was treated in hospital, and police say she is traumatized.

The suspect was driving a grey or silver van. He’s described as a South Asian man around 30 years old with short brown hair and a beard.

“We’re currently in the process of a video canvass in the area in the hopes of locating the suspect vehicle on video. If located we will forward a picture to the media,” a statement reads.

While police are in the preliminary stages of the investigation, they say the incident suggests it was a random incident.

There is no suspect identified or arrested so far.

Witnesses, people with information about the incident, or people with dashcam footage from the area of South Fraser Way and Bourquin Crescent West early Sunday morning between 3 a.m. to 4 a.m. are asked to contact the Major Crime Unit at 604-859-522.
