B.C. fugitive second-most wanted in Canada, believed connected to Thailand murder

A man believed to still be in B.C. is the second-most wanted person in Canada, and a $100,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his arrest.

Gene Karl Lahrkamp, 36, is wanted in connection with the killing of a man in Thailand in February.

The victim, Jimi Sandhu, was shot several times. The 32-year-old’s body was found near a villa in Rawai Beach in the Muang district of Phuket. Sandhu was a former Canadian resident who police say was known to have been involved with the United Nations Gang. He was deported back to India, where he was a citizen, in 2016.

According to the Royal Thai Police, this was a targeted shooting and investigators believe Lahrkamp is one of two suspects who flew back to Canada in the days after Sandhu was killed.

INTERPOL issued Red Notices for the suspects, one of whom was arrested in Alberta within weeks. Lahrkamp, police say “is still actively evading arrest.”

Lahrkamp is described as 6’4″ and 210lbs. Police say he may be travelling with and “unknown number of dogs.” Police say his last known address was in Trail, B.C. and investigators believe he may still be in this province.

If you see Lahrkamp, you are advised not to approach him. A reward of up to $100,000 is being offered for any information that helps police find and arrest him. The reward is only being offered until Oct. 26, 2022.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222 TIPS (8477) or at solvecrime.ca.

Lahrkamp was named in a list of the top 25 most-wanted people in Canada, as part of the “Bolo” (Be On the Lookout) Program. The list is described as a “living document that will be updated frequently.”

“Fugitives will be removed and added as arrests occur and additional police partnerships are formed; a variety of jurisdictions and crimes will always be highlighted,” reads a description, in part, provided by the program.

Second B.C. man on fugitive list

Another B.C. man, John Norman MacKenzie, is also on the “Bolo” list.

MacKenzie, 61, was serving a life sentence for second-degree murder and armed robbery. He escaped from the Mission Institution in August, 2018.
