Surveillance video of Vancouver Gucci store robbery suspects released

Security footage of a robbery at the Gucci store in downtown Vancouver late last year is being released by police in hopes of identifying the suspects.

Video shows two men in mask entering the Gucci store near Thurlow and Alberni streets around 7 p.m. on Dec. 9, 2021 and releasing bear spray in the face of a staff member. As the rest of the store’s staff members run out of the store floor, the two masked men can be seen taking a number of bags.

Police say about $20,000 in merchandise was stolen.

“The 33-year-old security guard was completely incapacitated by the attack, and fled out an emergency exit to hide in a stairwell with three other employees until the robbers left,” a statement from Vancouver police reads. “They were treated by paramedics after the robbery.”

While the suspects wore masks during the robbery, they removed their disguises shortly after fleeing the store. Nearby security camera captured the two suspects’ faces.

Video footage released Wednesday was obtained early in the investigation Cst. Tania Visintin says, but “for investigative reasons we’ve been unable to release it until now.”

The video is being released now because the public has helped identify suspects in similar incidents, Visintin says, and they’ve proven to be “instrumental in helping us solve a number of disturbing attacks.”

“We’re once again asking for help to identify and apprehend some violent criminals,” Visintin said. “We need anyone who recognizes these men to call us right away and tell us what they know.”

Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at 604-717-2541.
