Man charged in killing of UBCO security guard to undergo psych assessment

The man who allegedly killed a young security guard on the UBC Okanagan campus in February is set to undergo a psychiatric assessment.
Dante Ognibene-Hebbourn was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in April, after 24-year-old Harmandeep Kaur was attacked and died.
Ognibene-Hebbourn will undergo a psychiatric assessment before his trial can proceed.
The 22-year-old’s defence says an application to have his mental state assessed was approved Friday in Kelowna provincial court, he will be assessed at the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital in Coquitlam.

Ognibene-Hebbourn was initially apprehended under the Mental Health Act after 24-year-old security guard Kaur was killed during an overnight shift at UBC’s Kelowna campus in February.
Originally from India, Kaur moved to Vancouver in 2015 and recently secured permanent residency. She wanted to become a paramedic and is being remembered as a “beloved daughter, sister, and friend.”
