Long-time Coquitlam White Spot employee retires from ‘home away from home’

It’s the end of an era for one White Spot employee. More than 25 years after her first shift at the Coquitlam location, Monic Hart is saying goodbye.
“It’s hard to say goodbye to everybody cause I got a lot of regulars that are coming in to say goodbye,” Hart told CityNews.
Hart’s journey with White Spot began nearly 32 years ago, when she joined a Vancouver location. A few years later, she transferred to Coquitlam, where she’s been ever since.
“It just goes by so quickly. Just, it’s been so fast. I enjoy working here and it’s a good place to work at. White Spot’s been good to me.”

She says the thing she will miss the most, is the customers, some of whom she’s seen grow up.
Other customers have become like family. Like Anne and Peter, who Hart has been serving for 25 years.
“I’ve been serving them for a long time. Peter says ‘oh, I’m gonna miss you.’ It’s just heartbreaking,” Hart said.
Anne says White Spot has become “a home away from home,” with Hart a pillar of that notion.
“We’re very sad to see her go, it’s been a long time and we’re a lot older, and we’re gonna miss her. It’s like a home away from home. We brought our kids here, and our grandkids and our great grandkids. So they know where the White Spot is when they come.”
Hart’s time at White Spot even became a family affair. All three of her kids had a turn working alongside their mom.
“I remember when they were hosting, they go ‘oh mom, you know a lot people’ and I go ‘yea.’ I go out of my way to go say hi to everybody. When I recognize people. I like to think that it makes them feel good,” Hart told CityNews.
