Father, son in Vancouver allegedly assaulted with bear spray; two teenage suspects arrested

After a father and son were assaulted with bear spray, a 13 and 17-year-old were arrested, Vancouver police say.

Around 9 p.m. on Saturday night, near Nanaimo SkyTrain Station, a father and son walking around after Saturday’s Whitecaps game were confronted by a group of teens.

After a verbal exchange, allegedly, one teen deployed bear spray.

The two teens suspected to be involved in the assault allegedly made racist comments after and were later arrested nearby.

The suspects are known to the police.

“The 13-year-old was arrested for assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon, and breach of court conditions,” police add. “The 17-year-old was also arrested and taken to jail.”

The teens arrested have been released as police finish their investigation.

Police believe the suspects and victims know each other.
