A couple of firefighters from Squamish are spending a very long day walking to Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
They’re raising money for an organization that provides housing, health-care, and harm reduction for some of the region’s most vulnerable and under-served people.

Lee Jackson and his friend left at about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday and expect to get to the Downtown Eastside by 7 p.m. They’ve managed to raise thousands of dollars for PHS Community Services Society to help fight the opioid crisis.
“Someone close to me that suffered from drug addiction in the past, organizations like the PHS Community Services Society helped them get back on their feet,” Jackson explained.
“You also see it a lot in the profession that I’m in, as well … It’s the least I can do, to give back.”
Jackson is raising money through a GoFundMe page.
