Vancouver sisters found safe in abduction investigation, woman arrested

Editor’s note: Previous information on the children has been removed for privacy reasons.

Vancouver police say two children who were taken from their mother’s home in Strathcona Thursday night have been found safe, and the female suspect has been arrested.

Police alerted the public to the investigation Friday morning, and just before noon, tweeted that the girls “have now returned home and are safe.”

A woman was arrested.

Vancouver Police Const. Tania Visintin said no Amber Alert was activated because it does not meet the criteria.

“We have information from the mother that she doesn’t believe the children are in danger,” Visintin said.

More than 100 police officers were assigned to this case, and Visintin says more were working behind the scenes.

“This is our number 1 priority right now,” she said just before 11 a.m. Friday morning.

When asked how the mother was coping, Visintin says, “As you can imagine, I think it’s very troubling, very scary…she wants her kids back, like any mother would.”
