A man on Vancouver Island who is believed to have abducted his seven-year-old daughter earlier this year has been arrested.
Jesse Bennett was arrested “without incident” on May 24, RCMP say. According to police, he was arrested that evening during a routine traffic stop in Shawnigan Lake.
In January, police in Duncan had appealed to the public for help in finding Bennett’s daughter after they said Bennett failed to return her to her mother.
On April 20, the girl was found safe.

On March 23, an arrest warrant was issued for Bennett, with the RCMP announcing it had “gathered sufficient evidence to recommend a criminal charge.”
Bennett was wanted for abduction in contravention of a custody order, Mounties said at the time.
“As this matter is now before the courts, no further information will be shared,” the RCMP said in a statement Tuesday. “The RCMP would like to thank the public and the media for their assistance.”
