A dog that was found shot and abandoned in the Beaverdell area of the Southern Interior of B.C. is on a long road to recovery.
According to the BC SPCA, the German Shepherd-mix, Rose, and her brother were on an abandoned property for “an unknown period of time.”
The dogs got spooked during a recent storm and ran into the woods. However, when they returned to the property, the SPCA says “Rose was in a bad way including injuries to her back, face and neck.”
Those injuries have since been confirmed to be the result of gunshots. It’s still unclear what exactly happened or who is responsible, with the animal agency saying the investigation is ongoing.
When #bcspca staff walked out to a car as it pulled in with 2 large dogs inside, they weren't prepared for what they would find. Rose had large wounds across her face, neck & back. Later we discovered they were gunshot wounds. Read her full story here: https://t.co/xJ7CQ4i0VT pic.twitter.com/QbjJVCr2Hs

Rose was found with severe, infected, and near-necrotic injuries. The SPCA says she could barely eat when they took her in.
“We immediately rushed her to the emergency vet where they worked to make her more comfortable while attending to her wounds,” the SPCA writes.
It’s expected Rose will need more surgery in the months ahead, including procedures to “reopen the wounds to search for more buckshot debris.”
As a result of the traumatic experience, the SPCA says Rose is “scared, nervous, and in shock.” However, she has also shared some “affectionate moments” with vet staff.
The German Shepherd-mix is currently under 24-hour care.
