A search is underway for a missing boater, who is believed to have gone overboard in the English Bay area in Vancouver.
A 17-foot rental boat was found Wednesday night with the keys still in the ignition and the throttle pushed forward. There was no one on board the vessel.
“As a result, a mayday relay was broadcasted,” Sub-lieutenant Wilson Ho, duty public affairs officer for the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Victoria, said.
Multiple agencies and a helicopter have been scanning the waters of English Bay as well as near the Lions Gate Bridge, including the Vancouver Police Marine Unit.
On Thursday morning, Vancouver Police Const. Steve Addison says they believe they know the identity of the missing boater, but have not released further details until officers can speak with the person’s loved ones.

Ho says they plan on searching until they find something.
“We will still have assets in the area continuously searching for persons in the water. And at this time, this will be an ongoing thing until a decision has been made … This will be all throughout the night.”
