Family confirms Kelowna woman’s body found after long search

The family of a missing woman in Kelowna says a body found near Mission Creek is that of 31-year-old Chelsea Cardno.

“It is with very heavy hearts that we have to announce that we have found our sweet Chelsea,” reads a Facebook post signed by Cardno’s mother, Diane.

According to the RCMP, on Friday just after 5 p.m., a farm owner in the area of Spiers and Berard roads reported finding a body on their flooded property.

Mounties have yet to publicly confirm the identity.

A full-scale search was launched after Cardno was reported missing early last week, upstream from where the body was discovered. She was last seen leaving with her German shepherd, JJ, for a walk.

According to her mother, JJ has yet to be found.

“Chelsea’s beloved JJ is still missing, so please keep your eyes open for him,” the Facebook post continues.

The family is asking for “privacy in the coming days to come to terms with this great loss.” They note Mounties are expected to release more information Saturday afternoon.

The RCMP says the BC Coroners Service has been called in. People were asked to avoid the area out of respect for Cardno’s loved ones.
