Two people were sent to hospital after a flat bed truck towing an excavator has hit the 192nd Street overpass above Highway 1 in Surrey Tuesday morning at 8:00 a.m.
Several other vehicles were also involved, including a car, which is heavily damaged.
BC Emergency Health Services confirmed the patients were transported to hospital by ground ambulance, but did not provide more information on their injuries.
Traffic is backed up through Surrey and Langley, with major delays expected. Drivers are being diverted off Highway 1 at the 200th Street exit.
DriveBC says an assessment is “in progress,” though no timeline for when the highway will fully reopen has been provided. It’s also unclear how serious any damage to the overpass may be.
As of 9:30 p.m., only a single lane was opened westbound, and people are being asked to avoid the area and plan ahead, if possible.
You can take Fraser Highway as an alternate route.
