B.C. nurse suspended for making fake vaccine cards

A nurse in B.C. has been suspended for six months after she’s said to have made four fake COVID-19 vaccine cards.

According to a public notice posted by the B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives, the Castlegar-based nurse created the cards in 2021.

The group says she used “her position, experience, credibility in public health, and her knowledge of the vaccination system to effect the fraudulent creation” of the documents.

It also notes she “presented varied versions of events” while speaking to her employer, witnesses, and the college, adding “her conduct was deemed a marked ethical departure from the conduct expected of a nurse.”

Sarah Jones has signed a consent agreement and has voluntarily agreed to conditions. In addition to the six-month suspension, the college says she has agreed to take a professional ethics course.

B.C. began rolling out COVID-19 vaccines at the end of 2020. It brought in the B.C. Vaccine Card system in the summer of 2021, as part of its efforts to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

Proof of vaccination was required to gain access to things like restaurants, movie theatres, and gyms for several months.

The province ended its vaccine requirement system in April of this year.
