Anticipation is building ahead of the second fireworks display of the 2022 Celebration of Light when Team Canada will take the stage — or barge, in this case — Wednesday night.
Yukon-based Midnight Sun Fireworks is this year’s home country entry into the 30-year tradition. The team is making its Celebration of Light debut.
Co-producer Warren Zakus is hoping everything goes off with a bang, when it’s supposed to.

“It’s very much designed to be synchronized with the music, and we use a lot of classic rock music and songs where we find we can be really creative,” he explained.
Zakus says Wednesday night is the culmination of a lot of hard work, with members of the team working on portions of the display for days at a time.
“Some of our team has spent three days on something that’s only going to last 60 seconds,” he explained. “So, you know if something happened to some of the wiring and then it didn’t go [to plan], that’s a big disappointment. We’re not really worried about the safety side, we’re just more worried that something won’t work and then it won’t look as good as we hoped.”
This year’s production shaping up to be the biggest public gathering since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
“There’s a huge crowd. We’re very excited, and nervous and excited. All those feelings,” co-producer Kiara Adams told CityNews.
The show starts Wednesday at 10 p.m., with road closures in the area beginning from 6 p.m.
